First Aid Taught to Andersen Elementary Students
March 30, 2009 — Andrea Mordick, Health and Safety Coordinator, taught how to control external bleeding to the fifth graders of Anderson Elementary school in Bayport. This first aid station was just one of many that the kids experienced, on their field trip to the Bayport Senior Center.
"It was extremely rewarding to see all there smiley faces so eager to learn." says Andrea. "It seemed like they really got a kick out of bandaging each other up and being wrapped up in arm slings. They all wanted to show up at school all bandaged and slinged up for the remainder of the day. It made me smile when several of the students already knew what to do if you or someone was injured, since they have already taken our Babysitting course previous to their field trip. I hope i get another opportunity like this one, it made me see what a difference the American Red Cross has made in our community."
After the training, Andrea recieved a thank you card form the Bayport Senior Center and inside were several letters from the students thanking
her and writing about their favorite part of the day, it made Andrea smile knowing how much fun they all had. Just a few quotes from the students: "My favorite thing there was the first aid center. I loved how you got all rapped in that thread and the sling." "Thank you for the first aid lesson...it was really fun!" "Thank you for inviting us over. The funist thing was the first aid and the rag dolls."
