Community Partners Band Together to Further Assist Storm Damage Clients
During the initial response to the severe rainstorms that flooded several homes in St. Croix County, the St. Croix Valley Chapter American Red Cross assisted displaced residents. Red Cross’s role is to help meet the immediate emergency needs of residents affected by disasters. During that initial response, fourteen displaced families were provided emergency lodging and food.
Affected residents are now in the long-term recovery stage and some still have unmet needs due the extensive damages. Various emergency support agencies are meeting weekly to assess those unmet needs and make referrals to the appropriate agencies which provide services specific to those needs. Current community partners meeting on a regular basis include: Village of Baldwin, Village of Woodville, St. Croix County Emergency Management, WestCap, Salvation Army, St. Croix County Health Dept and American Red Cross. New community partners are highly encouraged to join the long-term recovery efforts. If interested please contact St. Croix County Emergency Management at 715-386-4719.
St. Croix County has a hotline 1-888-305-3555 where affected residents to report the extent of damage to their residences. Approximately 190 residents have contacted the hotline. The county is seeking information on residents’ specific needs regarding damaged furnaces, hot water heaters, sump pumps, etc.
When disaster strikes a community, the Red Cross is one part of the total humanitarian response, working with other organizations, which together, provide a full spectrum of services. Red Cross disaster assistance is free. Generous donations of time and money enable the Red Cross to respond immediately to more than 70,000 disasters every year.
